Natural consortia are widely studied, and artificial microbial consortia hold significant potential in both economic and ecological fields. In this project, Yunqian has explored a phototroph-heterotroph consortium consisting of the heterotrophic bacterium Bacillus subtilis and two species of cyanobacteria. In his work, he has used sucrose as a carbon source for Bacillus subtilis and developed methods to study growth dynamics and biofilm formation, laying the groundwork for possible further research on Bacillus-cyanobacteria consortia and related systems.
